About ASI Scandinavia
Adventist-laymen's Services and Industries is a membership organisation of Seventh-day Adventist lay people who want to share Christ through their working lives. It is a worldwide movement of thousands of members, and ASI Scandinavia is its chapter across Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland.
What we are working towards
A thriving network of ministries, businesses and lay people in Scandinavia who share Christ in the marketplace.
In practice that means supporting members in the work they already do, and supporting the Seventh-day Adventist Church through what members build: health work, education, evangelism, community service, family support and individual projects.
Where ASI came from
ASI's roots are at Madison College, a self-supporting Adventist institution founded in 1904 near Nashville, Tennessee, by E. A. Sutherland and Percy Magan. As Madison grew it planted satellite schools and institutions across the country.
In 1947 those self-supporting entities formed the Association of Seventh-day Adventist Self-Supporting Institutions, under General Conference guidance. Members then were educational and health institutions. As businesses, entrepreneurs and professionals joined, the name no longer described the membership, and in 1979 it changed to Adventist-laymen's Services and Industries.
In Europe the first chapter was formed in 1983.
